Hot, Hot, Hot

Image
It has been up to 36 degrees today and of course we were food shopping and house cleaning!  Didn’t matter as shops are air conditioned and we went before it was too hot.  We saw these in the supermarket, pity we cannot bring some home as we hear they are in short supply in the UK! The house is not huge and we just give it a brief once over.  The bed linen was washed, on the line and folded ready to go away  in about three hours total.  Decided just to fold and not iron in this heat. After lunch we headed for South Beach and the sea was so calm and inviting.  We didn’t take the beach tent as were not planning a long stay.  Straight in for a swim, sun screen on and in a short while I was in the water again to cool off.  We stayed a couple of hours and spent a lot of this time in the sea. We drove into Fremantle to The Bar Orient for another 10Aud steak, delicious.  On Tuesdays they do Chase The Ace where every time you buy a drink you get a raf...

Visit to Alison and David

Image
Camila drove us to see Alison and David her older friends, our age, who live in Lower Chittering, about an hour north of Perth.  Camila house sat for them before she met Gavin and they are good to them both and so welcoming to us.  They emigrated from the UK about 17 years ago and have a property on a five acre block.  They have an elderly cat and dog and three sheep.  David is a brilliant engineer and he showed Richard his workshop and he was amazed at all the things he has in there, a motorcycle he is re building, pool table, lathe and tools to make tools to name a few. We sat outside for coffee before lunch and it wasn’t too hot.  We had lunch indoors as it was cooler with the air con and after lunch we walked around the property and the heat really hit us. Their dog Sally was given a bath this morning and she joined us on our stroll and rolled in dust and dirt and looked very pleased with herself!  We had a really lovely day. And got back to the house a...

Lazy Sunday

Image
Temperature over 30 degrees today but a cool breeze most of the time so not unbearable.  We got ready to go to lunch with Gavin and his friends, some we have met and some we haven’t.  We went to a restaurant called The Quarie, Richard drove there and I drove home.  There were 17 of us and as some of the guys had been to a stag night the night before, we were pleased everyone turned up!  We had an outside table in the shade and we spent about two and a half hours there in all eating and chatting.  It was lovely to see Steph and Colm’s two children, Ella was a newborn when we saw her last and we have never met Noah.  I was thrilled when they were leaving that Ella came up to me and gave me a huge hug and kiss goodbye without being told to. It was good to catch up on all our news and see how everyone is doing now after the Pandemic and with the recession that has hit everywhere, interest rates have gone up here and as in the UK and that effects those with mort...

Different Saturday

After a late night we decided not to go snorkelling with Gavin and Camila.  They went to a relaxation floatation tank, a present for Christmas from Gavin.  He said it was ok but wouldn’t do it again but he did fall asleep in there, not sure what Camila thought of it.  They went snorkelling afterwards. We opted not to walk into Freo but walk along South Terrace where there are loads of restaurants and coffee shops, it was pleasant walking in the shade and we went to the South Beach Cafe for coffee and smoothie and a delicious slice of caramel cake.  We enjoyed people watching but didn’t go to the beach.  On the way back it was hot and we were waiting for Gavin and Camila to get back so called in at The Local Hotel for a cool drink.  They still didn’t arrive so we came back to the house, where I had a doze while reading my book.  Still waiting, so gave up on them and went to the beach for a couple of hours.  It was a little cooler and very pleasant ...

Tennis Friday

Image
This morning Richard and Gavin had an early start, I had a lie in!  They had arranged to play tennis with Richard’s friend Steve Oldacre who is over from UK for his daughter’s wedding, she lives in Perth.  It was a much calmer day and they all enjoyed playing.  Steve and Richard went for a coffee afterwards while Gavin had his hair cut at the barbers in Fremantle. Steve and Gavin Steve and Richard Richard and Gavin The highlight of my morning was hearing noise outside yet again and seeing a vehicle park up and the name on the side made me laugh, see photo, typical Australia.  Had to take photos much to the guys amusement I think. Concrete Taxi! We decided to return to Woodman point to swim and relax.  All went well until Gavin went in the second time and he got stung by a jellyfish on his arm, we all exited the water very quickly.  He went in again later and got stung on his other arm and abdomen that time.  He was braver than me and although the welts...

Windy Day

Image
This morning we were woken up by a knock at our front door, which was a surprise.  It was the tree surgeons wanting us to move our car, they were only 13 days later than the notification we had about them working in Gold Street!  After breakfast I walked to Christine’s house for my fringe trim.  She is a lovely lady and she is from Switzerland but met her Aussie husband when she was backpacking and they have three adult children.  Typical Freostyle, she wouldn't  take any payment. Tree surgeons from our front door We picked Gavin up from his home and made our way to the beach but it was too windy to sit and relax so we had a picnic lunch on the greensward.  We came back to the house and I had my second shower of the day to get rid of all the sand that had blown on me and in my hair. We decided to go to Port Beach to Coast Bar Restaurant overlooking the ocean.  We enjoyed watching who we thought were windsurfers but these guys had hydrofoil surf boards ...

Shopping and Harbour Watch

Image
Richard was looking for a new hat to wear in the sun and Gavin was looking for t shirts.  We walked into Freo but the search for both of them came to nothing. We walked to Gage Road for a drink and light lunch and sat at the harbour side and watched the ferries and a container ship being towed out and one towed in and it was very interesting.  There was also a large cruise ship in as well.  We have looked up cruise ships docking and leaving and plan to see the Queen Elizabeth leave at 10pm at the beginning of March, this time we will take binoculars and hope we can see through them ok in the dark. We went with Gavin to view a flat share, it was a high end apartment but not for him.  His landlord has sold his property so he has to get out by mid March.  He is not concerned and has plenty of offers for places to stay until he finds what he wants.  I drove there and back with no problems. Cruise ship docked Almost out to sea Tug boats working hard Container sh...
