Hot, Hot, Hot

It has been up to 36 degrees today and of course we were food shopping and house cleaning!  Didn’t matter as shops are air conditioned and we went before it was too hot.  We saw these in the supermarket, pity we cannot bring some home as we hear they are in short supply in the UK!



The house is not huge and we just give it a brief once over.  The bed linen was washed, on the line and folded ready to go away  in about three hours total.  Decided just to fold and not iron in this heat.

After lunch we headed for South Beach and the sea was so calm and inviting.  We didn’t take the beach tent as were not planning a long stay.  Straight in for a swim, sun screen on and in a short while I was in the water again to cool off.  We stayed a couple of hours and spent a lot of this time in the sea.

We drove into Fremantle to The Bar Orient for another 10Aud steak, delicious.  On Tuesdays they do Chase The Ace where every time you buy a drink you get a raffle ticket.  At 19.30 they do a draw and whoever wins has the chance to throw a dart and the board where there are playing cards, you need to aim for a card that is facing the board.  If you hit the ace of spades you win the jackpot which was 1,600Aud tonight.  I had reminded Richard to get his ticket when he had a drink after our meal and told him if we were chosen he would have to throw the dart.  To our great surprise our ticket was pulled from the draw and Richard did very well to hit a card facing the board but it was the Queen of spades so next week the prize is 1,700Aud.  Was a bit of fun to do and the chances of getting the ticket pulled from the draw were very slim.  It is still very warm and weather like this makes me wish we had air con, but hopefully it will be cooler later.  This weather is supposed to last until Friday and go down to the 20’s on Saturday so we have put off a planned trip to Yanchep National Park until then.

Last Friday/St Patrick’s Day

Today was going to be a relaxing beach day but it was too windy so relaxed at the house.  Then we had a call from Gavin to ask if we could help give his house a clean prior to leaving inspection as there was more to do than he realised.  Unfortunately the gas had already been switched off and therefore no hot water and he had already given the kettle to Camila.  Cleaning with cold water not too easy but Richard did a really grand job of cleaning the oven!  Now we wait and see if all our joint efforts are enough for him to get his Bond back, let’s hope so.  I did suggest if he does another house move to get removal guys and house cleaners in!!! He treated us to lunch and we went to Gage Roads Brewery for the final time.  We sat outside looking over the harbour and were lucky enough to see four dolphins, such a treat, they looked almost black so not sure which type of dolphin they were.  As we drove through town, we saw quite a few people dressed in gree...

Caversham Wildlife Park

Richard suggested we visited Caversham again as the weather has been cooler and cloudy today and perfect weather to walk round a wildlife park.  It hasn’t changed much, sad there were no Quokkas to be seen this time, we forgot to ask why though.  The kangaroos seem to have a much larger enclosure and are laid back as ever. One reason to return was that Lisa had told me you can now not only see and stroke the koalas but hug one as well.  This is the only thing to cost extra to the entrance fee.  We got concession entry tickets as we are old!  I was so fortunate to get the last place to hold a koala at the 3pm session, everything else had gone.  A lady asked about it and we beat her by about two minutes, phew I was so excited, doing this for you too Lisa x. Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Today I had an hour and a half lesson to learn how to stand up paddle board.  Gavin and Lisa treated me for Mother’s Day and I will treasure the memories as it is something I have wanted to do for a long time and the warm waters of Western Australia were perfect.  We went to Peppermint Grove on The Swan River and the conditions were nice and calm and perfect place for beginners.  There were six of us in the beginners taster session, three of us complete novices. Shannon, our instructor was very good and extremely calm and patient and determined we would all stand up on the board.  It is not as easy as just paddling as there is a lot more to it and we learned techniques of paddling, falling off the board like a starfish, something I was good at and getting back on the board.  We got used to the boards and the water by lying down to start, then kneeling and paddling and final goal to stand up.  Was a bit off putting to see quite a few jellyfish in the water, ...
