Caversham Wildlife Park
Richard suggested we visited Caversham again as the weather has been cooler and cloudy today and perfect weather to walk round a wildlife park. It hasn’t changed much, sad there were no Quokkas to be seen this time, we forgot to ask why though. The kangaroos seem to have a much larger enclosure and are laid back as ever.
One reason to return was that Lisa had told me you can now not only see and stroke the koalas but hug one as well. This is the only thing to cost extra to the entrance fee. We got concession entry tickets as we are old! I was so fortunate to get the last place to hold a koala at the 3pm session, everything else had gone. A lady asked about it and we beat her by about two minutes, phew I was so excited, doing this for you too Lisa x.
We looked around and saw a few animals and birds we hadn’t seen on our last visit and walked in the kangaroo enclosure which as I said was huge. We saw a couple of mum’s laying down resting and their joeys were moving around inside their pouches but we could not see them, there was one we had a glimpse of what was either an ear or a leg, difficult to tell. Just before we left the enclosure we were lucky enough to see one joey lounging half in and half out of his pouch. Another one had its face and legs out and then came out completely and it was so cute.
We had lunch in the cafe which wasn’t busy at all and saw a few more animals before making our way to Meet The Animals where you can see and learn about various animals in the Park. As we had been before we didn’t queue to have a photo with the wombats, done that already. Then it was off to see the koalas, we were both very excited.
There are only 10 people per day, five per session allowed to actually hold the koalas, I was number five in our group. One lady went before me to hold Paula a two and a half year old koala who is quite small, not much bigger than a joey. She was so sweet and to calm when I held her. We didn’t feel rushed and asked questions as we wanted. I was given a gilet to wear so that my clothes didn’t get damaged, they have long claws! Thought of Lisa as this is something she would love to do, some day darling you will. We had a good journey home and will relax this evening ready for when we go to Mandurah tomorrow.
