Serpentine National Park
We had planned to have a beach day today but woke up to another hot humid and windy day so we decided to go somewhere else as our house was too hot to stay here. We decided on Serpentine National Park as I looked it up online and there was a 2km fairly easy trail we could walk through the Jarrah forest and hopefully not be too hot. We found it with no problem and from the car park it is a 400 metre walk to Serpentine Falls. It was not busy but we were disappointed no swimming allowed in the waterholes there as a brain eating deadly bacteria was found in there! It was still a peaceful and beautiful spot to visit. We met a family from the Lake District, the parents were visiting their son and girlfriend who are on a holiday visa here. The husband has a sister who lives in Finchingfield, small world. He joked and said to have a photo taken with me to say I had met another man, haha.
We tried to find the way to the trail via car but as in National Park it was very poor reception and after driving around for a while we gave up and decided to drive to the Serpentine Dam instead. Also, the heel from Richard’s trainer came loose and was flapping around so no proper shoes for walking in. It was a beautiful drive through the bush and when we arrived there was a lovely Bistro there. We were very good and ate the packed lunch we had brought with us in the car with the air con on then ventured out to the dam. We walked down as far as we could go but actually the view was better from the Bistro. We climbed back up and had a cold drink before driving on the road across the dam on our way back.
We were surprised as we were driving to come across a mine site which was huge. They are mining for bauxite which is a sedimentary rock containing aluminium.
