Not Such a Good Day!

This morning we woke to cloudy skies but it was still warm.  We collected Gavin and decided to go to South Beach and then go for lunch at a bistro nearby.  Richard noticed police officers on the beach walking towards the far end and realised that someone was administering CPR to a person on the beach.  It was very upsetting to see even from a distance and we could see their attempts did not succeed when everyone was standing and the body was covered by a white sheet.  The police came along the beach looking for the man’s belongings ie towel, car keys wallet, ID etc as they did not know who he was and where he had gone into the ocean.  Apparently a nurse who regularly swims there found the body but they think by then he had already been in the water a while.  Such a sad situation and we can only hope they find out who he was and can inform family and friends, our thoughts go out to them.  Later on we saw what with think was a tv cameraman filming the spot but by then the body had been removed together with all equipment.  From news online the man who drowned was 66 and had been snorkelling and was pulled from the water unresponsive, so at least they must have found out who he was.

We had lunch at South Beach Hotel and then I came back to change into warmer clothes as I was chilly in my wet swimsuit and it had begun to rain.  It has mizzled on and off all afternoon.  We then went to Gavin’s to pack his stuff into our hire car to take round to Camila’s.  Unfortunately when reversing into the very narrow car port, Richard caught the bumper of the car on a wall, luckily we are fully insured and the damage was minor.  It is a difficult place to park but, enough said!  When we got to Camila’s Oscar helped us put Gavin’s belongings in his bedroom but the guy who was moving out was supposed to have gone by mid day was there cooking his lunch!  Typical South American attitude to getting things done.  Luckily he had emptied the room except for the bed, which was cleared by the time a second trip was made.

After a third trip, Richard parked on the road so that the removal guy could get close to Gavin’s Unit and he couldn’t find where he had put the car keys so they could load more things.  When he went back to the car, having found the key, he had an Infringement Notice and a fine of 80Aud for ‘parking within three metres of an unbroken line’.  As everyone parks where he had we couldn’t understand it and thought it was for the line in front of the units for the entrance which he was well clear of.  I decided to walk back to the house and noticed an unbroken white line in the middle of the road about six metres long and we wonder if that was the line the Traffic Warden meant.  I have looked it up online as from what I can see, as there were no ‘no parking’ notices anywhere, we could park there.  I have appealed by email and now we wait and see.  I had a pleasant walk back to the house, despite the mizzle, in fact it was nice not to be too hot.

One of the photos sent as evidence.
If he was fined for parking the wrong way round  road, we knew about that one!

Richard came back about 7pm after he and Oscar helped Gavin move the remainder of his belongings in.  Been a long day.
