Busy Day

It was a hot uncomfortable night, but felt much cooler this morning, but as the day wore on it is hot and humid again.   Gavin bought me some posh Sony headphones for my birthday but I couldn’t connect them to my iPad although all other devices were fine.  Today as it was hot again and too windy for the beach this morning we decided to return them.  The store were so helpful, headphones exchanged and working perfectly, now all I have to do is learn all the functions!

We decided to drive to Rockingham which is South of Fremantle to see if it was a little cooler there, it wasn’t.  We had a pleasant walk along the esplanade and a coffee in a cafe looking out to sea.  Richard wants to get a new watch strap for the watch he got in Fremantle Market three years ago, finally found where it can be done and it was closed, typical.  He is determined to buy the strap in Australia and not the UK as he bought it here!

We would like to go to Penguin Island when Gavin is with us and we drove to find where the ferry to the island departs at Rockingham.  The young lady at the information desk was so helpful and now we know where to go and what to do as we will take a boat trip to the island.  You can walk it at low tide but it is not recommended as tides can come in very fast and there is a high risk of drowning.

On the way back Richard filled the car up with petrol where it was cheaper than in Fremantle and he spotted an automatic car wash.  As the car had been used for target practice by quite a few birds he didn't want to leave it until we had to return it to the rental place.   Now a nice clean car for a few days at least.  Photos have downloaded in the correct order.

We went to CY O’Connor beach on the way back for a swim and cool down.  Even though it became cloudy, it was still hot, luxury to be able to swim in the ocean.

I know this seems strange, it does to us, but it is the first day of Autumn here today and we are in the middle of a mini heatwave.  Richard and I agree when we come next time and if we need to rent a house, we will definitely want air conditioning, even though Richard does not like it.  The house has been nice and cool and comfortable but when temperatures hit 36 degrees plus it is definitely not as nice.  Mustn’t complain as it is still so cold in the UK.  We sat outside for dinner this evening, the first time for a few days and it was very pleasant.

Last Friday/St Patrick’s Day

Today was going to be a relaxing beach day but it was too windy so relaxed at the house.  Then we had a call from Gavin to ask if we could help give his house a clean prior to leaving inspection as there was more to do than he realised.  Unfortunately the gas had already been switched off and therefore no hot water and he had already given the kettle to Camila.  Cleaning with cold water not too easy but Richard did a really grand job of cleaning the oven!  Now we wait and see if all our joint efforts are enough for him to get his Bond back, let’s hope so.  I did suggest if he does another house move to get removal guys and house cleaners in!!! Caversham Wildlife Park

Richard suggested we visited Caversham again as the weather has been cooler and cloudy today and perfect weather to walk round a wildlife park.  It hasn’t changed much, sad there were no Quokkas to be seen this time, we forgot to ask why though.  The kangaroos seem to have a much larger enclosure and are laid back as ever. One reason to return was that Lisa had told me you can now not only see and stroke the koalas but hug one as well.  This is the only thing to cost extra to the entrance fee.  We got concession entry tickets as we are old!  I was so fortunate to get the last place to hold a koala at the 3pm session, everything else had gone.  A lady asked about it and we beat her by about two minutes, phew I was so excited, doing this for you too Lisa x. Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Today I had an hour and a half lesson to learn how to stand up paddle board.  Gavin and Lisa treated me for Mother’s Day and I will treasure the memories as it is something I have wanted to do for a long time and the warm waters of Western Australia were perfect.  We went to Peppermint Grove on The Swan River and the conditions were nice and calm and perfect place for beginners.  There were six of us in the beginners taster session, three of us complete novices. Shannon, our instructor was very good and extremely calm and patient and determined we would all stand up on the board.  It is not as easy as just paddling as there is a lot more to it and we learned techniques of paddling, falling off the board like a starfish, something I was good at and getting back on the board.  We got used to the boards and the water by lying down to start, then kneeling and paddling and final goal to stand up.  Was a bit off putting to see quite a few jellyfish in the water, ...
