Tennis Friday

This morning Richard and Gavin had an early start, I had a lie in!  They had arranged to play tennis with Richard’s friend Steve Oldacre who is over from UK for his daughter’s wedding, she lives in Perth.  It was a much calmer day and they all enjoyed playing.  Steve and Richard went for a coffee afterwards while Gavin had his hair cut at the barbers in Fremantle.

The highlight of my morning was hearing noise outside yet again and seeing a vehicle park up and the name on the side made me laugh, see photo, typical Australia.  Had to take photos much to the guys amusement I think.

Concrete Taxi!

We decided to return to Woodman point to swim and relax.  All went well until Gavin went in the second time and he got stung by a jellyfish on his arm, we all exited the water very quickly.  He went in again later and got stung on his other arm and abdomen that time.  He was braver than me and although the welts were red he stayed and said after a while the pain went.

Calmer day and seagulls playing in the water

Crowded jetty

I went for a walk along the beach to dry off and saw two starfish in the water, of course I didn’t have my camera with me and although I signalled Richard and Gavin to bring it to me, they didn’t see me, typical.  I got back and explained so Richard came with me and I took my camera.  We were just coming back and I noticed one had been washed up on the beach, I edged it back into the ocean but we guessed it was already dead when I first saw them.  Still, I took photos of it as never been close up before that I can recall, Gavin said he saw a huge one when they were diving.

At about 13.30 we saw a group of older schoolchildren walk along the jetty with their teachers and all jump in to snorkel around the jetty.  In a while two more younger groups arrived, one group also jumped off the jetty but this time to swim to shore, the other group were still on the shoreline when we left.  We can see why children in this area are so water confident.

Just as we were packing up Gavin spotted a Pied Oystercatcher on the shoreline and he took these great photos for me.

This evening we went for a BBQ at Camila and Gavin’s friends house.  Felipe is Chilean and his wife Paulita is from Brazil and their housemate Manu, who cooked the meat is from Chile.  We had a real South American greeting, they were all such warm friendly people.  Another girl, Maria arrived, think she is another friend and then Camila was last as she has travelled back from work in Darwin.  Felipe and Paulita have an American Staffie called Padang, he is under a year old and a big softie and he absolutely adores Gavin.  It was a really great evening with lots of interesting chat.  Now back and ready for sleep after a busy but good day.
