Gold street
We were up reasonably early as we knew we had a busy day. The cafe we first went to in Freo for breakfast, High on 55 was open again after the weekend so we had breakfast there. We went back to the hotel to finish packing and then walked to collect our hire car, we couldn’t believe how busy the office was but the guy apparently, according to Gavin has worked there for years and he had everything under control. We drove back to the hotel to collect our things, had a late checkout free of charge.
We went to collect Gavin and went to Camila’s house for lunch. She has not been there much since she took over the rental as she was working. It is a really lovely older house with lots of character with a verandah and a garden which could be very pretty. She is happy there and getting things how she wants them. We met her friends David and Alison who are about our age and emigrated here about 17 years ago. They have a property in Chittering north of Perth and have about five acres of land. They are a really lovely couple who Camila met when she first came to WA. Alison is a retired nurse so we had plenty to chat about and David is very interesting to talk to. Camila and Gavin prepared another tasty lunch and we were able to eat in the garden, the weather was perfect, sunny but not too hot. Gavin has met David and Alison before so it was all very relaxed.
Then we went to Melville about 10 minutes drive away, so lovely to have our hire car. We bought a beach shelter which should pop up like an umbrella. Although it was more expensive than the first one we bought, hopefully this won’t go in the bin before we even use it! Gavin also bought my birthday gift as he promised which was lovely of him.
We took him home and again dropped off more stuff to the house we call home for six weeks. We had left shopping we bought in Esperance and he has lent us his BBQ. We then went grocery shopping and finally got back to the house about 7pm. It is so lovely to finally unpack everything, it was like unpacking surprises as it’s so long since we packed to leave the U.K. We were both a little unsure about the house but as we have got used to it we are pleased with our choice. There is no air conditioning but the bedrooms and lounge have large ceiling fans. It is really a character older house typical of Freo and to my joy we even have a dishwasher! It was hot when we got here but we have opened all the windows and put the fans on and it soon cooled down. After unpacking we both had a much needed shower and are now relaxing watching mindless tv before bed. I love the front door as it appears very old and I found a doorbell that you have to twist round to make it work. I can remember these from my childhood. I took a few quick snaps of the house inside for the blog. Will finish now as need to put my feet up and relax and enjoy my glass of wine.
Gavin goes back to work for two weeks tomorrow, we will miss him but I am sure we will fill the days. It is supposed to be sunny tomorrow but cloudy for the following three days then sunshine again.
