Friday/Saturday 10/11th February

We decided to have a break from the beach on Friday and visit the RAAF Museum at Bull Creek which Alison and David recommended.  It was a lovely little museum and we enjoyed the visit and took quite a few photos.  The museum was on a RAAF Complex of lovely apartments which we presume are for ex RAAF staff and families in a really nice setting.

Taken from both sides of the plane, looks very flimsy, wouldn’t have fancied flying in this!

We then decided to pop into Fremantle to get Richard some more swimming shorts, he got some when we got here and they look good and are comfortable and are in a sale, so he now has two pairs.  I had spotted a lovely pair of silver earrings a while ago but the shop was always closed.  Richard persuaded me to go in the shop and take a closer look as it was open and he treated me to them, thank you Richard.

Liz didn’t call by the time Richard was getting hungry and as we had decided to treat ourselves to dinner in Fremantle, we chose to walk into town.  We were surprised how busy all the restaurants were but had a lovely meal on the Cappucino Strip then walked back, only about a 15 minute walk each way.  It got quite windy but was not unpleasant.

Saturday - we opted for a beach day and went again too CY O’Connor beach but this time the part we used to go to before it’s called McTaggart Cove and where the statue of CY O'Connor on his horse where he committed suicide is in the sea.  He was a great man and I have a book about him at home.  He was instrumental in improving standards for railway workers in Perth and improved Western Australia’s Railways, he established Fremantle Harbour and planned construction of a pipeline of water to the goldfields where there was a lack of water.  He was hounded by the press as they thought it would fail, hence his suicide, a year later it opened and is still operational today.

It is still quite windy and once The Fremantle Doctor (wind) came in we took our beach shelter down as we didn’t want it to get damaged.  We packed up our things and took them back to the car then returned to the beach for a lovely walk along the shore. Now back at the house and Richard will BBQ again tonight.  He insists on washing up, so I am being very lazy.

Weather forecast here is for early 30’s in the next few days so we won’t be doing much I think! Another dinner eaten in the courtyard garden, hardly seems possible when it is so cold in the U.K.
