Family In Mandurah

Today we were invited out to lunch with our relatives Ian and Clarene,  Ian is Lynley’s cousin and a Chopping (my mum’s side of the family).  We went to their home first for coffee and a chat and as with Lynley and Frank it was as if we had seen them last week, not three years ago.

Ian drove us to a beautiful Brewery/Restaurant called Boundary Island in Mandurah.  We did go there with them last time we were here but it has been taken over from just a restaurant with an added brewery.  As we were there the brewery was in action and you could smell the hops and see the steam coming from the brew kettle.  Unfortunately Frank did not feel well enough to join us this time but we all had a delicious lunch and chatted all the time catching up on family, national and international news and the time flew by.

Lynley went home and Ian drove us around Mandurah to see some of the areas we had not visited before and showed us all the building that has gone on.  We saw the estuary and lakes and were shown where they go crabbing.  Ian and Clarene have amazing knowledge and memories and put me to shame as they know so much about where they live!

We got back to their home and looked around their caravan and saw the changes they have made to it, then we spotted Ian’s new boat.  He showed Richard around it and how it all works.  They use it on the estuary when they go crabbing and have kindly invited us for a trip on it before we leave so we can get a taste of what it is like.  Ian has had boats for years so he knows what he is doing so we are looking forward to it. We had tea and banana cake, delicious, then I showed Clarene how she can follow this blog. Ian also showed us round their garden where they have mango, lemon and avocado trees growing which were planted from seed a few years ago.

We had a good journey home and decided to drive to Golden Bay to see where we had been thinking of buying if we came over here and if they had put in the infrastructure they said they would.  There are so many houses now, we got lost, but it does look like a good area and yes, the infrastructure is there even if not totally complete yet.  We are looking forward to seeing both couples very soon as they all make us feel so welcome.
