Busy Friday in Freo

We slept reasonably well which is to be expected in a new place.  The hotel is lovely and we are enjoying our stay and a bit of pampering.  Breakfast is not included so we walked to a little cafe a couple of hundred metres away.  It was so nice we will probably go there again tomorrow.  Camila has told us a couple of other places to try as well, so lots of variety if we want it.

We walked to the car hire place and Google maps gave a 25 minute walk estimate in directions and it was hot so we didn’t hurry.  Half way there Richard spotted a sign to say the car hire company we were looking for (No Birds) was 50 metres the way we had just walked so don’t know what Mr Google was on about, but it turned out to be a 15 minute walk which was good.  Much better to go in and chat rather than try and book online as the guy was so helpful and booking made for Monday up until we leave and all done in about ten minutes.

We then walked back to the Fremantle Market which hasn’t changed much but Richard was disappointed as the stall where he got his watch last time is not there now and he wanted to get a new watch strap from the same place.  Now he will have to look elsewhere.  We walked to Little Creatures Brewery and had a pleasant hour overlooking the harbour and watching the boats come in and go out.  They now have fine mist sprays to cool you down which were much appreciated.

I was very hot by this time so we came back to our room to rest and cool down in the air con coolness.  Once revived we walked to Bathers Beach for a swim and sun bathe.  It was so hot, about mid 30’s that we went straight in for a swim.  After sun bathing for about 15 minutes we were swimming again to cool off.

I was just about to go back to the beach when I felt something I thought was seaweed around my lower left leg but then I felt a stinging sensation.  I tried to pull off whatever it was, couldn’t actually see anything but soon realised it must have been a jelly fish, horrid creature.  My lower leg up to my mid thigh felt like I had hundreds of needles pricking it.  We decided to walk back to the hotel and get advice from a pharmacist nearby and by the time we got there I had red welts all over my leg and one part was beginning to swell.  The pharmacist just looked told me to have a hot shower and I would be fine.  I did as instructed then applied anti histamine cream and within a couple of hours my leg was much improved and not painful any more, phew.

We went to Gavin’s for dinner and Camila joined us and we had a very pleasant evening yet again.  They have done the first day of their diving PADI in a swimming pool and tomorrow do their first dives in the sea.  Camila had been apprehensive but she enjoyed the day.

We came back to our hotel and to say the least the bar was rocking to a great band and everyone was dancing.  We had one drink and enjoyed the atmosphere.  We are now back in our room and thankfully it is not too noisy to sleep, or so we hope!!  Tomorrow it is supposed to be up to 39 degrees so we will find somewhere to go out of the sun.  We plan to spend the afternoon with Gavin as their diving finishes at about mid day.
