I was too tired to blog yesterday as we had another busy day. We drove to Lucky Bay which is famous for kangaroos lounging on the beach. Unlucky for us, we didn’t see one, but it was a beautiful spot with pristine white sand which squeaked when you walked on it. There were several 4x4 cars which drove onto the beach but they didn’t bother us at all. The sea was like in Esperance beautifully clear blue and plenty of waves to body surf on. Gavin went in three times but I only ventured in once this time.
On the way to Lucky Bay we came across a number of roadworks and at one lot we had to wait for ages and then had to be escorted through by a works vehicle as we were on the red dirt.
We then drove a short way to Thistle Cove where we saw Whistling Rock, didn’t get a very good photo but the wind blowing between the crevices in the rock sounded just like it was whistling. There were some lovely views from there as well. We saw a tiny black snake at Thistle cove, not sure what type it was but about ten inches long, Gavin spotted it and I was pleased to see it slither into the undergrowth.

We treated ourselves to dinner out as it was our last night in Esperance but it was a chilly walk back to the caravan park. We had packed up most of our stuff for an early start this morning as the drive is about eight hours.
Friday 2nd Drive back to Fremantle
We left the Campsite by 08.10 and Gavin and Richard shared the driving. A lot of the time we had no phone signal. We were again escorted through roadworks and saw different vehicles working such as graders which smooth the road surface.
On this journey we came across two long stretches of straight road, one from Lake King to Newdegate which was 38 miles and from Newdegate, after an exciting bend in the road to Lake Grace 33 miles. Both lakes were dried up salt lakes. We took a break after this as Gavin needed a change from the straight roads, haha. We also saw some painted silos in Newdegate (I know a really strange name).

We arrived back in Fremantle about 16.00 and collected our cases from Gavin’s house and he drove us back to The National to book in for four nights. We have a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the street, it is very luxurious, not like the Ibis in Albany. We unpacked then went to the rooftop bar to relax with a cool drink. Camila joined us and it was lovely to chat and get to know her a little better. We are so grateful she lent us her car. The sunset was absolutely amazing, none of us have seen anything quite like it before. Camila went home as she had eaten and we had dinner then Gavin went home to prepare for tomorrow as they start the practical part of their diving PADI qualifications. Had a lovely shower and looking forward to a good night’s sleep after a busy and eventful week.
