Esperance Day Two

Too tired to blog yesterday evening after a busy day.  We drove to a local beach and spent the morning sun bathing and swimming.  The waves can be quite rough and Gavin was body surfing in on them, I mostly just got battered by them but did manage to body surf in them a couple of times.  It was good fun although the water is a bit cooler than in Fremantle.  We came back to the camp site for lunch and walked to a beach closer to here for the afternoon.  There was a roped off swimming area with shark net around and we thought it would be good to swim there.  Unfortunately it got quite windy and the sand was blowing over us so we gave up and walked back to the camp site.  We had chicken wraps for dinner which were very tasty.  We were all quite tired and it was chilly outside so we sat and watched an Australian film on tv.  Richard and Gavin also watched the Men’s Tennis final before dinner.

We all slept well and woke up fairly late.  We decided to drive to Twilight Beach. We stopped off on the way and Gavin was able to fly his drone for the first time since we have been here.  The beach was quite busy by Australian standards but we soon got settled and Gavin was keen to swim.  Richard didn’t go in far as he has had trouble with ear pain after getting water in his ear when we swam in Fremantle even though he wore ear plugs.  Gavin and I had good fun in the waves but they were quite powerful and there was a strong undertow. Gavin was body surfing again and I had a go too.

About ten minutes after we got out we heard a siren and an announcement saying shark incident in the area, please leave the water immediately.  In no time there were no people in the water and everyone was looking out to sea trying to spot the shark!  Quite exciting for us but also a bit concerning.

We came up from the beach and ate lunch in the shade.  We got talking to a guy with an ice cream van and he said the incident wasn’t actually shark related but five people had to be rescued from West Beach near us from a rip tide and one person had been seriously injured.  Know no more but hope they are all ok.

He recommended another beach called Eleven Mile Beach, not eleven miles long but about eleven miles from the town centre, again stunning but the water was really cold apparently, I didn’t venture in this time.  I had a watery left eye which became painful so had a snooze instead.  On the way back to camp site we called in to a pharmacy and I bought an eye bath and saline to bathe the eye, also took some anti histamines and it is a lot better.

Did some washing also which is now on the line, we are next door to the laundry area which is handy.  Much warmer today.  The camp site emptied out a bit yesterday but more people have arrived this evening. Gavin and Richard are just off to the BBQ area to cook some sausages and I am going to bake some shark in the oven, not sure what it will taste like, but can have sausages if we don’t like the shark.
