Birthday

For the first time since I can remember, I was able to spend my birthday with Gavin and in the sunshine.  We had a chilled morning looking at the changes to Fremantle with Gavin.  While out we thought we would book the remainder of our accommodation on our road trip to stay in Esperance and found almost everything booked already.  It is Australia Day on Thursday and a holiday weekend before the children return to school after their summer holidays.

We decided to return to our B &B and do further research and eventually have booked two nights in Albany where we want to visit the ANZAC Memorial Museum and then five nights in Esperance which according to everyone who knows it, says it is a stunning place.  It was a relief to get booked in the end.

We then walked to  Bathers Beach which is about 10 minutes away.  It has been quite windy but warm today so the breeze was welcome.  The sea was a little rough but we all had fun jumping the waves. We then sat on the beach and Richard suddenly saw a fin in the water.   Being Australia he immediately thought SHARK but actually it was a dolphin not far from the shoreline.  We kept watching and saw three dolphins playing in the bay, a beautiful site.  Gavin joked he was getting worried they wouldn’t turn up on time pretending he had ordered them as a birthday treat for me.  It was a wonderful gift from nature.

We came back to shower and change for dinner and Camila and Gavin were chatting online and I was told to go downstairs as there was a surprise.   Bless her, she is back in Darwin working but had ordered some lovely chocolates and biscuits to be delivered to me, will share them with her when she returns next week.  I have chatted to Lisa via texts, seems strange not seeing her and the boys this year and not being able to video call because of the time difference but hope to do this at the weekend.

We walked to a local Italian restaurant which was recommended to us and had a tasty meal, thank you Gavin.  For dessert we went to a Gelato shop and I had Hokey Pokey ice cream (honeycomb with chunks of honeycomb not little pieces).  We walked back to Bathers Beach bar for a night cap and watched the beautiful sunset.   Now tucked up in bed listening to the wind whistling around the rafters of our room and feeling cosy.  It has truly been a memorable day.  Early start in the morning as we are going by train to Mandurah to visit Lynley and Frank for a couple of hours.
