Albany
Just a quick post tonight. After a stressful night worrying about the car seat, up early to try and find a fix. While Richard and Gavin went to local garages, I was ringing around trying to see if it could be fixed. After no luck with anyone, Richard came rushing back to the room to say it was fixed. I thought they had found a good garage, but they had a ‘lightbulb’ moment and took the motor out and reversed it and to their great delight the seat back slowly came forward. Well done to them, such a relief and all our moods lightened. The rest of the day improved, but as I took photos on my camera today and we have no proper WIFI I will post and download our day tomorrow when we arrive in Esperance.
Saturday 28th
Yesterday we spent the day in Albany once the car was sorted. We drove to a really lovely local cafe called Fredericks for breakfast. Lovely setting overlooking the harbour, the staff were really nice and the food was delicious.
We then visited the National Anzac Centre and spent a few hours looking around. We walked through the grounds and saw various guns and look out points, then climbed to the main lookout where thousands of troops in First and Second World Wars left these shores, a lot never to return or returned disabled. Such a beautiful place and so poignant.
We then entered the museum and were each handed a card of a soldier serving in the First Wold War and told to place them on posts around the museum to hear your soldier’s personal story. Mine was killed in 1917 but Richard and Gavin’s both survived. We were also given Audio Units to listen to again throughout the museum and you could listen to stories of the wars which gave additional information to the displays and were spoken as if the soldier or nurse were talking to you, again very moving. I took photos on my camera but because still no WIFI cannot upload yet so will do later in the week when hopefully where we are now staying in Esperance will have decent connection.
We went to a pub in the town for dinner and spent a pleasant evening eating and chatting. Although we moaned about the hotel, we all agreed that they had amazing showers. Tomorrow is a long drive to Esperance, approximately five hours.
